LOVE this weather! New Mexico finally realized that it is December I guess…It has always been a late bloomer.

foggy drink for a foggy day

and new purchases..slash a growing book pile

Happy Birthday America!

The sun is shining, the tourists are flocking, and the interns are partying. I practically feel the patriotic spirit flowing through my veins ;) I began the day trekking off to the Dupont Circle farmer’s market

There was so much variety for a rather small farmer’s market and though I sampled my ass off I didn’t really find anything that I wanted to purchase because we did a trader joe’s run yesterday morning. I was tempted by certain things most definately though:

I did drop by the DC staple of Kramerworks&Afterwords, the beyond adorable bookstore slash cafe slash delicious restaurant, and browsed some books (they offer books galore, so of course I am in love) about Swedish culture to begin prep for my departure in about 50 days. They were bumping with 4h of July business so I refrained from actually purchasing anything BUT I did stop by starbucks for an iced coffee moments later.

I took my time strolling back to the dorm and was touched and intrigued by this rooftop garden

Yesterday was the first day of downtime I had so after our Trader Joe’s excursion, Top Chef & Bethenny Getting Married watching, a quick nap, and phone sesh with the parents I spent the remainder of the afternoon working and then browsing the Washitonian website and finding some tasty food spots to check out!

It’s actually rather sad that I had enough time to create such an intricate list. I made a word document with the name of each place, explanations of directions, the genre of food, a link to them menu (if they had one), and whether it would be best to check out on my way home from work or from my dorm.

I also scratched out a small list of things for me to see in my downtime including (but definitely not limited to):

  • Dupont FreshFarm
  • Phillips Collection
  • National Geographic Museum
  • Kramerworks and Afterwords Cafe
  • Eastern Market
  • Newseum
  • Smithsonian

The underlined ones are the ones that I have now been to so I suppose I’m off to a good start. :) heading out now to be American and all that–bbq and fireworks anyone?

I have found that no matter where I go I somehow manage to locate two things: coffee dispensary and a book site. Obviously the coffee venue came first (I have needs people!!!) but the library bit came about yesterday afternoon.

I managed to sleep in until 9, which was particulary astounding considering Kemp and I took a nap from 10:30am to 12, then 5:30pm to 8, and then went to bed at 10pm (guess my early rising ways finally caught up with me). Anyways, I read and stretched out for an hour or so until Kemper returned, we grabbed lunch and then parted ways once again for him to go to class.

I decided to explore this little campus, seeing as it looks SLIGHTLY different than UNM hahah

and as I said earlier, I managed to stumble upon a lovely little library! I was beyond excited to find a section on television, movies, and broadcast journalism. I plopped down in the aisle and explored what the aisle had to offer:

Screenplays scripts for Almost Famous and American Beauty

Anecdotes from the stars of SNL

Advice from ‘Women in Television’ about broadcast journalism

In the basement the article archives were stocked in automated aisles, I thought that was rather nifty. You would just press a button and it would open up where you wanted to look!

I also snatched up a copy of Oregon State’s newspaper The Daily Barometer. I have to say, obviously I am incredibly biased, but I was entirely unimpressed. There were three articles on the front by reporters and I am not kidding the rest of the paper was AP (from other press sources) and it was PUNY.

It was written rather clumsily and there were more than a few syntax errors, made me feel proud to be a part of The Daily Lobo. Speaking of which, I am currently attempting to do an article from thousands of miles away sans voice recorder hahah so this will be interesting. It is about how the Health Sciences library is renting out iPads and they are all being incredibly helpful but I am crossing my fingers I can get this sucker knocked out today because we are travelling for the weekend to one of Kemper’s friends houses I guess.

I absolutely adore the squeaky-clean feeling of post dentist knashers, although I do not approve of the time which I was expected to wake up to make my appointment (7 o’clock). I was done an hour too early to sell my books to Page One Too so I just browsed and found what new books I wanted while waiting for 10 to arrive.

Book shopping is the love of my life, hands down my all time favorite activity. I go through books like Whole Foods chips during a Top Chef marathon so it is great that I can sell them back and get new ones. Currently I am in the process of deciding which one to start first, Jen and I just got back from the gym and ate lunch (slash breakfast for me, i was cranky because of lack of food–i couldn’t eat before the dentist though!).

Yesterday I was great, but I was totally beat by the time dinner rolled around. I was once again indecisive about what I wanted to eat for dinner, there was too much to choose from. I made a delicious snack tray–sun chips, some greens, salmon, guac, and salsa. The avocado in the fridge was approaching its last days, so I made quick use of that.

My mom and step dad loved it! We watched the season finale of House, which was great, then I creeped on facebook (IM TAKING ANOTHER BREAK  as of now hahah) subsquently talked with Kemper, and fell asleep.

AHHHEM..RANT WARNING: (skip over if you hate immaturity..I just have to let it out but that doesn’t mean you have to read it hah)

I am seriously so incredibly weirded out about how some girl’s brains work. I just dont see how they can interpret a situation so far from reality, (and honestly I find it creepy that I took the time to look at someone I dont know’s facebook profile to notice their misinterpretation in the first place). Just because my boy is aware of your crush and allows it to perpetuate doesn’t meanhe feels anything for you like that, doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a girlfriend of 2 and a half years, and doesn’t mean he says nice things about you to her. He thinks you are creepy and prepubescent. so. ANYWAYS, I am just not going to get on facebook for awhile again because it is infuriating basically and frankly I think its sad you cant find an actual boyfriend so you have to ask mine to take pictures with you and pretend like you are going out. Age is not an excuse for doing psychotic things like that, I certainly didn’t at 16, maybe your ex-boyfriend broke up with you for a reason (if he even was ever your real boyfriend).

okay,I truly apologize that I vented about that in such a public forum but I have held it in since March and it has just reached a ridiculous level of crazy at this point, too much for one girl to internally maintain.

I am going to figure out what I want to cook tonight at my dad’s, so I will leave you with a little glimpse of my ridiculous hair from yesterday hahahah. ;)
