syrup

It is night time, I arrive with people at a hotel. We attempt to get into the elevators only to realize they are bags with strings attached that you zip yourself into and then slowly dangle as it raises you. Not only will my bag and myself not fit in that bag, but there is no way in hell I am trusting my life to a bag.

We take the stairs. We get to level five, open the door and the a train whooshes past, shaking the entire building. The train tracks run parallel to our trailer–which apparently is the room that we rented–no WONDER it was so cheap!

We open the door to find that someone else’s stuff is all over the trailer. Not just any stuff either, disgusting, cigarette smoke bathed, ratty old blankets..let’s just say there is at least three diseases waiting for us. My companion starts arguing with the porter about cleaning up the room but they refuse.

And then I don’t remember anything else. This was in my dream, not the whole thing but just a piece. I remembered it while eating cake and coffee this morning and proceeded to look up what it all meant according to dr. internet.

HOTEL:

All dwelling places generally represent the dreamer’s psychological, emotional, or spiritual condition. The dream may reflect a current reality, issue, or dilemma and attempt to bring the dreamer into greater self-awareness. Because a hotel is a transitory dwelling, it suggests a time away from one’s responsibilities or routine. As a dream symbol it could reflect a need for rest and reflection. Depending on the details of the dream, specific information can be ascertained. For example, if the hotel is luxurious it suggests prosperity and positive decision-making. However, if the hotel is rundown and inadequate, it may reflect a time of uneasiness and depravation. Whether the hotel in your dream represented a retreat or escapism is for you to determine by examining your current daily reality. Finally, a hotel may refer to a temporary stage in life or be a form of compensation with which the dreamer eases the anxiety and stress experienced during the day

TRAIN

To see a train in your dream, represents conformity. You are just going along with what everyone else is doing. Alternatively, a train means that you are very methodical. You need to lay things out specifically and do things in an orderly and sequential manner. In particular, if you see a freight train, then it refers to the burdens and problems that you are hauling around.

ELEVATOR

In general, the up and down action of the elevator represents the ups and downs of your life. It also symbolizes emotions and thoughts that are emerging out of and submerging into your subconscious. Alternatively, the dream may have sexual connotations.

To dream that the elevator is out of order or that it is not letting you off, symbolizes that your emotions have gotten out of control. It may be a reflection of your life or your career. You are feeling stuck in some aspect of your life, whether it is your career, relationship, etc.

hmmmm..

Now, while I don’t think that it is an exact science I do think dream interpretation has SOME merit because your mind could very well associate certain images with particular feelings. Your subconscious runs wild, interprets your experiences and feelings of the day and programs it in your mind as you sleep SO Freud’s latent content makes sense to me. I just think it is interesting to think about, not live your life by.

It’s just fun! and creepily accurate.

I celebrated this week’s Tuesday in style, ‘in style’ meaning, of course, that I did not leave my mom’s house once I arrived from my dad’s.

‘I did not leave’ meaning, of course, that I did leave the house to run a vitally important errand.

The aforementioned ‘vitally important errand’  was, of course, going to Sunflower and going a bit overboard. I may have bought too much, but at least it was cheap!

i got ALLLL of this

for only that! let me just say that i love how cheap produce is.

Anyways, after finishing my article early I was left with a noon-thirty hungry belly, no further obligations, and a fridge full of produce so I did the only thing that one can do in this situation.

This ‘only thing’ was, of course, to make–>>>

LAZY DAY SOUP

A recipe in pictures, adapted from the front burner’s recipe.

Chop

Rinse

Roast and Saute

Throw it all together

Top it off and let it steam

Experiment with the scraps

for future reference, kale chips with cayenne pepper are REALLY good. Go light on the pepper though–they get super spicy!

Enjoy

(the weather, the soup, the view, reading outside, anything you choose to enjoy. I enjoyed that it was a lazy tuesday!)

yep

People always ask me why my favorite day is Tuesday, and honestly I cannot pinpoint an exact reason. It’s like asking why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, or why I sneeze fourteen times in a row, or why I am in love with Anderson Cooper.

It’s probably best if you just accept the answer as it is, and don’t questions it too much. Questions create problems. Instead, allow me to distract you from this introductory ramble with…

News round up!

news from my life, and otherwise.

  • I am now a World Market member–get the coups and everything. This is a dangerous development in my biography, but as necessary as a Border’s one I’d say.
  • Sarah Palin is now allowed control over the English language. WHAT THE WHAT?! not cool.
  • The Olsen twins have a younger sister..who looks more like them than they do!

  • On the Olsen twin note, I have a sudden unexplainable desire to own a multi colored, long sleeved, sparkly dress

A desire that I will likely ignore, because honestly I don’t want to look in my closet and see more than one dress adorned with sequins..my eyes couldn’t take it!

  • Harry Potter comes out this week! As if you didn’t already know..
  • I am still drinking smoothies despite it finally deciding to act like Autumn around here.

  • and microwaves still rock. dont believe me? click microwaves doubters!
  • Tuesday is still my FAVORITE day so have a good one :)

I LOVE BIRTHDAYS.

Not so much because of the actual day of birth of any particular person is so magical, but instead because of the air of celebration that tends to accompany them.

And the excuse to eat cake (0r more accurately for those of who you know me..ridiculous amounts of frosting).

Candles, presents, and a heavily frosted cake..what more could you ask for?

See that frosting glisten? Yep, I made that and it is shining because it is baked to the brim with love.

hahah alright cheesy BUT I if one man hadn’t been born on November 14 some years ago, then I would not be here to write about it.

Or to enjoy a home-made Lebanese Linner (or Delicious Dunch if you prefer)!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!

fiasco

Yesterday I was wondering why I didn’t bake more.

This morning I was reminded.

It all began last night when I came across some recipes from mama pea, mostly due to the fact that I had bought canned pumpkin on a whim, only to remember afterwards that I hate it and therefore needed to find a recipe to use it up.

A quick detour to Sunflower followed where I stocked up on everything that I THOUGHT I might need (more whole wheat flour most specifically) only to arrive home and realize that I was lacking brown sugar..and powdered sugar.

Seeing as I changed into my pj’s immediately after walking in the door, there was no way I was going to return to the dark, cold world for some measly sugar.

This was (bad) sign number one.

No matter, I was not to be deterred so this morning I woke up bright and early and ohsofashionably dressed drove to Smiths for the remaining necessities.

(bad sign )Number two quickly followed when I realized that I was missing baking soda as well! Now, there was REALLY no way that I was returning to the store for a third time–no matter if it was dark and cold or not.NOTE: It wasnt.

I forged ahead anyways. I decided to tackle some peanut butter cookies first. Everything was going smoothly..

until it wasnt.

The dough suddenly became dry, crumbly and wouldnt stick together at ALL. I checked the directions once, twice, and finally gave up and stuck it in the fridge while I began the second item. (Bad sign number three anyone?)

PUMPKIN BARS

This recipe was supremely easy and fast, which was encouraging. I bopped along, stuck it in the oven for thirty minutes and turned my attention back to the case of the dry dough.

I decided to experiment–something i am absolutely unaccustomed to but I already fucked it up by following directions so I was fed up with that.

I re-mixed peanut butter, butter, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl and folded in the crumbly failed dough little by little in one bowl.

In the other I mashed half a banana and combined it with the dry dough. Popped those suckers in the oven and began to examine my now fully baked pumpkin bread.

The moment I cut into it I was reminded of why I baking is not something I do often

I’m terrible at it!

Ah, there it is. I can’t even say that I enjoy it all that much, mostly I just enjoy having first dibs on the dough. It is actually rather stressful to me, because of my accute case of perfectionism.

So basically the pumpkin bread has little flavor. It is gushy, mushy, and generally unappealing. the chocolate chips in it are its saving grace, because they are ghirredelli.

In good news, the cookies came out alright. Oddly enough, the banana peanut butter cookies are my favorite and they were the ones that I created out of failure. That’s encouraging I suppose.

I think I’ll leave future baking to Jenny because she is really good at it. I of course am always willing to provide the dough! What are best friends for if not to consume large portions of cookie dough, I tell ya. Plus these are vegan so there are no eggs to worry about–not that generally stops us anyways.

I may be baking incompetent BUT in my defense I can make some mean quesadillas, and really what else do you need?

key

You know those days where every last is just perfect? The kind where your hair looks good, your feet dont hurt THAT bad in relation to the shoes you are wearing, you have good traffic,  accompanied by even better weather?

Yeah me either.

Today came pretty close though. I woke up at precisely 7 am sans alarm, enjoyed leisurely coffee with a side of Today show.

Made some work calls, and headed out for a run. The weather was a BIT too chilly for my taste, got the whole lungs-burning-from-inside-you-but-you-can’t-stop-gasping-for-air-and-making-it-worse deal  going on for sure.

Lunch with my favorite girls, an un stressed article, reporters meeting, dinner with mom, top chef rounded it off.

throw multiple cups of coffee interspersed within this and a failed baking attempt (i bought all ingredients to get home, and find out that i had no brown sugar) and you’ve got my day.

Which I have to say, is pretty darn close to perfect in my book. Busy but pleasant. :)

p.s. my feet hurt. wearing heels everyday is taking a toll! but absolutely worth it of course.
